Fireworks and sparklers; grilled chicken dripping with barbeque sauce; potato salad sprinkled with dill; patio furniture with family and friends perched all over it; and floating in the pool on a watermelon float. These are the things a summertime holiday weekend are made of and I am not about to spoil it by telling you to clean!

You’ll have enough to pick up from all the festivities. And then, of course, you’ll need to take a day to rest and prepare a bit for the week ahead. So this weekend, I’m giving you a super low-lift, completely easy-effort home task that you can do from the hammock at your cousin’s house, one-handed with an icy beverage in the other.

This Weekend: Re-stock one of your home essentials.

Everyone tends to forget about buying and stocking miscellaneous home items — until they’re not there when you need them. This weekend, you’re going to take a brief moment to think of one thing you can order now that you’ll thank yourself for later.

Here are some ideas:

HVAC filter

Batteries

Bandaids

Weather stripping to replace the section your cat shredded

A lightbulb to replace the wrong-color one in the hallway light fixture

Touch-up paint

New rotating brushes to replace the smooshed ones in your robot vacuum

Nail-in felt feet for your kitchen chairs

Refrigerator water unit filter

Cleaning tablets for your dishwasher or washing machine

Wool dryer balls

Command hooks

Sponges

That’s it! Just hit “checkout” on one home essential and enjoy your weekend.

Remember: This is about improvement, not perfection. Each week you can either choose to work on the assignment we’ve sent you, or tackle another project you’ve been meaning to get to. It’s also completely okay to skip a weekend if you’re busy or not feeling the assignment.
