We’ve all been there. After decorating our dream living room/bedroom/kitchen, etc., we discover all kinds of unexpected eyesores—a.k.a. unsightly cords, wall outlets, radiators, etc.—that definitely weren’t a part of our design vision.

So what to do when faced with unattractive (but oh-so-necessary) visual clutter? Don’t worry, we’ve got you. Read ahead for a handful of ways to conceal (and sometimes incorporate) five common eyesores around your home.

1. Cords and Wires

Nothing is worse than being stuck with a slew of ugly cable cords and electrical wires in plain sight. Luckily, some of our favorite brands have jumped on the “no-visible-cords” bandwagon and introduced some clever products for camouflaging them.

For example, Command now offers a line of self-adhesive cord organizers, including Cord Bundlers (that allow you to wrap up cables nicely behind your appliances) and Clear Cord Clips that prevent your cords from getting tangled.

There are also a ton of stylish cable box organizers—like this chartreuse-colored cutie from Urban Outfitters (above), specifically designed for corralling unattractive wires around your computer, desk, and TV.

2. Exposed Pipes and Beams

Love the infrastructure of your old apartment but not really feeling all of the exposed pipes and beams? Fret not friends, there’s actually a fairly simple way to conceal them.

Three-sided faux wood beams, are readily available at popular retailers from the Home Depot to Etsy , and are super easy to install (just mount to the ceiling or wall to hide the pipe or beam).

Or if you’re looking for something better suited to your decor, you can always make your own DIY covers with your choice of wood at home, and then paint them to coordinate with the rest of the room’s palette!

3. Radiators

When it comes to inescapable household eyesores, radiators may be the worst of the bunch. Ugly, bulky, but crucial to surviving the cold winter months, they bring new meaning to the phrase: “Can’t live with them, but can’t live without them.” Fortunately, it’s a problem most apartment dwellers share, so there are some pretty snazzy ways to conceal them.

If you’re searching for an easy and affordable way to dress up your radiator, or to make it blend in with your surrounding decor, consider painting it. The web is filled with inexpensive paints , sprays , and enamels designed for high heat sources, such as radiators, that come in an array of colors (including some cool metallic hues , too).

Of course, you can always invest in a sleek radiator cover, too. Available to order (often with custom sizing) on crafty sites like Etsy (above), these kinds of covers can run a bit on the pricey side but are well worth the money if you’re hoping to conceal your radiator from plain sight.

4. AC Units

While AC units might be slightly better to look at than old rusty radiators, they can still kill your home’s ambience real quick. Hide your AC window unit in style by employing a chic pair of bistro curtains above it, to simply cover it up when not in use.

Additionally, you can incorporate your AC unit (and an unused radiator, for that matter) into your overall decor scheme by installing a table or floating shelf above it. 5. Unused Wall Outlets

Desperately seeking a design-savvy way to conceal all the unused wall outlets in your living room? Just hang a piece of art over them to cover them up nicely without ruining a future power source.

And if you’re feeling super creative, you can always paint the outlet plate the same color as the wall. This way the unused outlet will blend in with its immediate surroundings—no hammer or nails necessary. Or if you’d rather they stand out, add a metallic plate like the one from Amazon above.
