Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: I bought my home five years ago and developed a deep passion for design and home styling along the way. One of the things I gained confidence in is in my use of color. The very first room I painted was my office—the smallest and least visible room of the house. I decided that if I was going to paint that I’d at least GO BOLD—and I did by painting the room a bright magenta. I realized that color feels like a giant hug and I wanted more!
After that, I’ve caught the color bug and have done everything from a black “girl cave” to a teal TV room with a vaulted metallic gold ceiling. I think that I’ve added in all of this color in a tasteful and cohesive manner, but I’ll let your readers be the judge. I first submitted to AT about three years ago and had a full house tour published in October 2017. My first submission was very calm and tame. This one is quite a bit more bold.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Bold, chic, unique, soulful.
What is your favorite room and why? It is so hard to say! My girl cave, office, or perhaps my “blue room,” which is a TV room.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? A stunning asymmetrical leopard print Art Deco chair, for $25 on Facebook Marketplace.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Take the time to figure out what designs/styles you are most drawn to before jumping in to buy a bunch of stuff for a new space. Take one step at a time and try to integrate vintage and/or personal elements that have a story. With color, find small spaces where you can experiment and build your “color confidence.” Bold color is great but be thoughtful about the number of colors.
